The Women's Champions League final between Chelsea and Barcelona on Sunday 16 May will be free to watch, BT Sport have announced.

Neither side has won the competition before, meaning we are guaranteed a first time winner. Prior to this season, Lyon had lifted the previous five Champions League trophies but they were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals back in April.

Chelsea have secured some impressive victories en route to the final, which will be played at Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg, Sweden. Emma Hayes' side defeated Atletico Madrid and then Wolfsburg to reach the semi-finals where they bested Bayern Munich 6-2 on aggregate.

Barcelona meanwhile, have been similarly eye-catching. Their comprehensive 5-1 victory over Manchester City in the quarter-final caught many by surprise and they got past PSG to reach the final.

Speaking about the decision to make the final freely available, head of BT Sport Simon Green said: "Showing the highly anticipated UEFA Women's Champions League Final advances our commitment to women’s sport, alongside BT’s partnerships with each of the four UK 'Home Nations' Football Associations to inspire girls and women to participate in football.
